Let's Think about Car Seat

  • 4 out of 5 Canadian children are not buckled or the restraints are the wrong size or not properly installed! Dangerous and against the law.
  • Most deaths and injuries occur in cars travelling under 65km/hr.
  • 82% of all fatal collisions occur on dry days and 51% during daylight hours.
  • A child is 8 times more likely to be injured traveling to school in a car than in a school bus.
  • Using seat belts or car seats will reduce the likelihood of being injured or killed in a traffic crash by 55% and 75% respectively
  •

  • Safety Tips
  • Never travel with an infant or child on your lap even while wearing a seat belt.
  • Only car seats less than 10 years old and meeting Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards should be used. Check for the manufacturers date.
  • Parents can call Transport Canada's toll free number 1-800-333-0371 to see if recall or alert notices have been issued on the seat.
  • The safest place for children to travel is in the middle backseat of the vehicle.
  • Attend a free car seat clinic in your area when they are announced and have it inspected.
  • Go to a qualified installer such as a dealer or Kiddie Proofers retail outlet for proper fitting and installation.
